To fix this error can be caused by a number of things and the fix varies based on the cause. Here are a few things to check if you get the Unable to read task sequence configuration disk error:

  • If you use a USB drive to boot the PC, confirm that the drivers for the USB hub / disk are added to the boot.wim file
  • Try using diskpart to remove existing disk partitions from the hard drive used for the OSD (Including System Reserved partitions)
  • Ensure that a drive letter is allocated to the boot partition (you can assign on in the Task Sequence under Format and Partition Disk
