When trying to download the vSphere Client after trying to connecting to vSphere or an ESXi host and clicking Run or Save, you get the following error:
Update Save Failed
The required client support files cannot be retrieved from the server “vsphereclient.vmware.com”. The login process will now exit.
Details: The request failed because of a connection failure. (Unable to connect to the remote server)
This error can be caused by a firewall blocking port 80 for the program or an incorrect URL built into ESXi / vSphere.
To fix the Required client support files cannot be retrieved from the server error, download the client support files (vSphere Client) manually from vmware.com. The vSphere Client is available as part of the vSphere or vCenter download package.
