The System Administrator Has Set Policies To Prevent This Installation

When trying to install some software, you can get the following error:

Windows Installer
The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.

There are a few things that can cause this. To fix this try the following:

  • Right click the installer, click Properties, click Unblock
  • Run the installer as an administrator
  • Create a new security policy to allow installation:Open the Control Panel, click Administrative Tools
Open Local Security Policy and right click Software Restriction Policies
    Click New Software Restriction Policy
Click on Software restriction policies and double-click on enforcement
Set the policy to apply to ALL USERS EXCEPT LOCAL ADMINISTRATORS
  • Turn off UAC and reboot your computer
  • Remove the software from the list of prevented installations in the registry:Click Start -> Run
    Type regedit and click OK
    Navigate to HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
Right click in the right hand pane and create a new DWORD called DisableMSI with a value of 0
    Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\
Find the software you want to install in the policy list and delete the registry key relating to it
