Spaghetti Carbonara Recipe

Spaghetti carbonara is a classic Italian pasta dish, using cream and bacon. This is my own carbonara recipe, but I think it tastes quite authentic and it fits nicely with the Italian style of cooking.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Spaghetti
  • Cream
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Onion
  • Bacon
  • Peas (Optional)
  • Spinach (Optional)
  • Pumpkin (Optional)
  • Garlic salt and pepper
  • Cajun seassoning (Optional – I use this to alter the flavour of the cheese sauce,  depending on the quality of the parmesan)
  • Oil

Recipe Instructions

  1. Cook the onions and bacon together in a small amount of oil
  2. Boil the spaghetti and diced pumpkin
  3. Grate the parmesan cheese (as small as your grater will allow) into the cream, add garlic salt, pepper and put on a very low heat and stir regularly
  4. Add Cajun seasoning (pinches at a time) to slightly alter the flavour of the sauce if required – if you get a good quality parmesan cheese then you won’t need to do this
  5. Tip the bacon, onions and juices into the cheese sauce and stir
  6. Wash the spinach
  7. Drain the pumpkin and spaghetti
  8. Mix everything together and season with pepper

  1. I’ll have to try this for my father sometime. I cook meals for him, when my mother is visiting my brother and his family. I’m betting my daughter would love it too. I bet a seafood version would taste great too, not sure if it’d still be Italian though, heh.
