Show Lync In Foreground When It Starts GPO

Did you know you can create a GPO to show Lync in the foreground when Windows starts? To create a group policy object that shows Lync in the foreground when the user logs in, create a GPO applying the following registry setting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Communicator\AutoOpenMainWindowWhenStartup 1 (DWORD)

You’ll have to Google how to create a GPO / admx file from a registry setting (I’ll make an article on this at some point). If you don’t want to create a GPO to do this, another option is to create a .reg file to show Lync in the foreground when it starts and roll that out instead. To do this, the contents of the .reg file would be:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Communicator]
“AutoOpenMainWindowWhenStartup”=dword:00000000

Simply paste the above into a txt file and rename the .txt extension to .reg to create a reg file that shows Lync in the foreground when it starts.
