How To Run Chkdsk Without A Drive Letter

Sometimes you may need to run chkdsk without a drive letter. To run chkdsk without a driver letter use the disk volume GUID instead. To do this:

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type cmd
  3. Hit enter
  4. Type mountvol
  5. This will return the volume GUID for the drive that has no driver letter
  6. Run chkdsk with the volume GUID instead of the drive letter (i.e. chkdsk /f \?{1234-1234-1234-1234-1234} )
