How To Remove Lync From Windows 7 Taskbar

If you are unable to remove the Lync icon from the Windows 7 taskbar, there are a couple of ways to do this. Here’s how to remove Lync from the Windows 7 taskbar:

Temporarily Remove The Lync Icon From The Taskbar

To temporarily remove Lync from the Windows 7 taskbar, simply right click the Lync icon in the notification area (next to the clock) and click Exit. This will close Lync and it won’t appear in the taskbar until you restart Windows (or log off and on again).

Permanently Remove The Lync Icon From The Taskbar

This option shows you how to permanently remove Lync from the Windows 7 taskbar, when Lync isn’t used. To do this:

  1. Right click the Lync icon in the notification area (next to the clock)
  2. Click Open
  3. Open the Options dialog box (by clicking on the cog near the top right hand side of Lync)
  4. Click the General tab
  5. Under Application Window, tick the checkbox that says Minimize to the notification area instead of the taskbar
  6. Click OK

This should cause Lync to be removed from the taskbar when you close (minimize) Lync.
