I while ago I wrote an article on forcing Android apps to only use Wi-Fi, but what if you want your Android apps to be useable anywhere, but only update over Wi-Fi? To make Android apps only update on Wi-Fi, do the following:
- Click on Settings
- Click on Data Usage
- Select the app you want to only use Wi-Fi (to stop apps updating over 3G / 4G and only use Wi-Fi, select the Google Play app)
- Click on View app settings, then Update over Wi-Fi only
The app should now only update over Wi-Fi and not use the 3G connection for updates. You should however, still be able to use the app over 3G.
