When you add a new printer driver to the repository in PrinterLogic Printer Installer, it’s possible to add drivers that are already built into the operating system. To add a printer driver that’s already in the OS:
- First aquire the driver.
If the driver comes with Windows Vista, 7 or Server 2008 (as OEM), the inf file you need to upload is in C:\Windows\inf\. Finding the correct inf file for the printer you have will be the tough bit. The best way seems to be to search within files for the driver name listed in the OS.
If the driver was from a manufacturer (not bundled with the default build of Windows), but is installed into Window Vista, 7 or Server 2008, the best option is to download the driver from the manufacturer again. If you can’t do this and need to install the driver that’s built into the OS, you can find these in the C:\Windows\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository folder.
If you are using a previous OS, try adding C:\Windows\Inf\ntprint.inf and select the driver you want to install from the operating system.
- Next install the driver into Printer Installer. Log into the management site (URL/admin), then click Tools -> Driver / Profile Repository -> Upload New Driver, then follow the wizard to add a printer.
