After configuring HA, you may get this error:
HA initiated a failover action in cluster <Cluster Name> in datacenter <Datacenter Name>
I’m not really sure what causes this or the fix, but there are workarounds available.
- Disable HA
- Enable HA
You may have to wait some time for HA to disable and re-enable. During this period your cluster will not be highly available. Once HA is re-enabled, the HA initialted a failover action error should disappear.
- Enter maintenance mode on hosts with the HA initialted a failover action error (migrating the VMs off the host)
- Remove the host from the HA cluster
- Add the hosts back to the cluster and enable HA
Restart the management agents on the hosts with the HA initialted a failover action error.
Obviously these things are not addressing the cause of the HA initialted a failover action error and it may come back. This error can be caused by the management network not being split from the other networks (such as storage, vMotion or VM networks).
Without knowing why HA is initiating a failover action in the cluster, I found that rebuilding the hosts fixed the error and it didn’t come back.
