FIXED: The VMRC Console Has Disconnected – Windows 8

Back in October I published an article around the fact that the vSphere client won’t allow a console connection to a VM from Windows 8, giving the error The VMRC console has disconnected. Attempting to reconnect. Failed to open console. This error has since been fixed with an update to the vSphere Client.

To fix the VMRC console has disconnected error, download the latest version (Version or above) of the vSphere Client from VMware’s website.

  1. Hi,

How do you find this download on VMware’s website? I am unable to locate it

    • Hey,

Yeah, VMware like to hide the Vmware Client download nowadays. I think it’s part of the vSphere download 😉

  2. On Windows 8 •VMware vSphere Client v5.0 Update 2 : VMware-viclient-all-5.0.0-913577 works perfectly.

No need to remove the IE10

You will need the 5.0 client , if you are using ESX 5.0, 5.1 will not work with ESX 5.0

  3. This isn’t a fix. Still receiving the same error using vSphere Client 5.5.0
