In IIS 7 Web Server, when selecting an application in a virtual directory under a website, clicking on Content View can give this error:
Internet Information Services (IIS Manager)
Could not find a part of the path ‘C:\inetpub\wwwroot\virtualdirectory’.
This is because the account used to run it doesn’t have permission to the directory or the directory doesn’t exist. To fix this error:
- Confirm that the path exists in Windows Explorer
- Confirm that the Application Pool associated with the application is running with an account that has permission to the part of the path relating to the virtual directory
- Right click the application and click Remove, then right click the virtual directory and click Convert to application. Follow the wizard, ensuring that you successfully Test the connection
