Bread and butter pudding is a traditional English dish that is made in order to utilize stale bread. Strangely, bread and butter pudding actually tastes better when you use stale bread.
Here’s my bread and butter pudding recipe that I just made up.
- All Spice (I normally like to use cinnamon in my bread and butter pudding recipe, but this was all I had. It worked out really well)
- Brown sugar
- Butter the bread
- Put raisens on the bread and all spice, then layer as you like. I like to make my bread and butter pudding as though a loaf of bread had fallen under it’s own weight and usually cut the bread into triangles. I know some people prefer to layer their bread and butter pudding like a cake.
- Mix all spice and cream with brown sugar then pour over bread, saturating it
- Put in oven and cook until it’s done. I neglected mine in the oven for about 25 minutes. That was too much, but the sauce had turned to toffee. Delicious. I think the trick is to regularly check it and keep it moist by scooping the sauce over the bread and butter pudding.
