A General System Error Occurred: Authorize Exception – Vmware vSphere Client

When you try to log into vCenter 5.1, you get the following error:

A general system error occurred: Authorize Exception

This is typically related to SSO when logging on with a domain account. To fix this, try the following:

  • Ensure that the vCenter server is connected to the domain
  • Re-add the vCenter server to the domain (Stop the VMware VirtualCenter Server service and stop it from auto starting while you make this change). Afterward, restart the VMware VirtualCenter Server service
  • Reconfigure SSO to point to the correct domain controller
  • Restart the vCenter SSO service on the vCenter server
